Dry to a Crack

I've had numerous requests in the past couple months to create formulations for eczema and psoriasis sufferers. Being a dry, fair skinned ginger, I am prone to eczema myself so I already try to incorporate moisturizing ingredients in my products. I usually blame it on the weather when I have a flare up, but recently, in my herbalism studies, I discovered that these skin conditions can be brought on by numerous conditions. Not just the weather.

Starting with eczema, which most often jumps out in our childhood but can develop in adult hood, it is very dry, red, inflamed, and sometimes hard patches of skin. The itch can be so deep you wish you could take a wire brush to it! The skin is showing you it has a hard time locking moisture in. Eczema can be from genetics, allergies, even an overreactive immune system. Triggers can come from any of the numerous chemicals we are exposed to internally and externally.

Psoriasis is a thick red plaque formation on the surface of the skin caused by an extremely fast rate of new skin cell formation thus causing the outer epidermis to become clogged up. It has been discovered that psoriasis is an auto immune disease. Triggers can be from genetics, allergies, poor liver functioning and even emotional traumas.
